Delivering Economic Growth

                                                  Park Road, Barrow’s northern Industrial Area: we have worked with most of its large firms to help them deliver their expansion schemes
We enable clients to devise area or sector based innovative, targeted, new economic development and business growth programmes to stimulate sub-regional local economies and their sector strengths.

Our specialist expertise can be used to either support your own management team or lead in designing a project’s scope, developing project options, assessing risks, developing resilient, robust business cases or looking at social impact implications of proposals for delivering public sector contracts.

We can also assist with evolution of economic development policy options and their implementation.
At a Parliamentary reception I briefed coastal area MPs,,Lords, energy companies and Councils about our use of Coastal Communities Fund to regenerate Furness

We will help you to define starting points for delivery of your project,such as:

  • Identifying potential financial resources including match funding,
  • Setting out a Concept, Vision, Aims, Objectives for what you want to do;
  • Research to evidence need and then underpin the designing of a  programme’s scope;
  • Demonstrating a clear fit with bidding criteria, strategic and local policies whilst advising on clear outputs and outcomes;
  • Preparing winning bids to funders followed by implementation plans, then the most important part…;
  • delivery on the ground in a targeted way over the planned duration of a project, with integrated regular reviews.

We can help you to design and project manage bids for UK Government or European funding.for new-build office or workshop schemes They could be for projects such as the 16,000 square foot Waterfront Gateway,Managed Business Centre located on the approach to the port of Barrow.

We prepared the ERDF funding bids to deliver a £3.5m managed business centre

We developed the scheme concept, coordinated ERDF expression of interest and full bid applications for a 60% grant, interfaced with MHCLG at all stages of the process supported Council officials from February 2019 to March 2020 build period and in delivery of a summative assessment for client Barrow-in-Furness Borough Council.

The building’s first tenant has moved in. Marketing is aimed at attracting tenants which are established small or medium-sized companies.

Promoting strategic business locations is another aspect of our delivery track record .These might be large sites for energy investment such as that shown below.The                                                                Rampside Road 204 hectare area is suitable for energy transition uses associated with offshore gas  LNG imports possibly hydrogen carbon capture  and gas storage                                                                and renewables it has a 132kv grid link gas pipeline grid links onshore and offshore.

                                                                                                                               The 42ha GSK site in Ulverston where 8 ha of GSK operational area

As part of the MP led GSK Taskforce Working Group since its inception we have worked with GSK management to develop a programme to respond to the economic shock of its restructuring announcement.

This involved introduction of an enterprise fund,being delivered through Cumbria Chamber of Commerce, concept for a master-plan to guide future site re-use and a programme to assist GSK employees affected by the changes to source new jobs.

For South Lakeland District Council (SLDC) we delivered develop master-plan concepts for the 42 hectare GSK Ulverston site.  GSK Taskforce through SLDC is now commissioning consultants to turn this into a full workable master-plan in 2021. We were part of the SLDC led Selection Panel Interviewing, scoring and selecting the consultants.

We have also assisted personnel from BAE SYSTEMS in evolution of its shipyard Master-plan and planning performance agreements engagement with local authorities.

We can help facilitate cross-boundary and regional economic development collaboration and businesses reach.Four examples of this are shown below.
